Writing, No Matter What

The water does not flow until the faucet is turned on.

Writing, No Matter What

No matter how many distractions, or how many other commitments
(I need to let some things go)
No matter how little sleep, or how many times I was up with the baby
(or one of the older kids — they always seem to come to me and let their dad keep sleeping)
No matter how many cups of unfinished, cold coffee are left in the sink, or on the desk, or on a shelf
No matter how many meetings, or deadlines, or work emails may pass through the waking, middling hours of the week
No matter how many piles of laundry, stacks of dishes, or scattered toys seep into the tired ends of the day
No matter how many news stories, status updates, or poised photographs may crowd my idle moments
No matter how many dear friends or loving family tug at the deepest portions of my heart
No matter what… no matter how many… no matter who — all clamoring for my attention.

I must write.
